21st May 2019
Five of Britain’s emerging talent are preparing to travel to three parts of Europe this weekend in preparation for Saturdays FIM World Under 21 Semi Finals.
With three Semi Finals all on the same day Saturday 25th May, it is an important date in the calendar of the Young Lions.
Current World Under 21 Bronze Medalist Robert Lambert travels to Pardubice in the Czech Republic along with 2018 FIM World Under 21 Finalist Dan Bewley.
2019 British Under 21 Runner Up Zach Wajknecht along with 16 year old Drew Kemp make the trip to Strausland in the North of Germany, and Leicester Jack Thomas accepted a very late call up on Sunday morning to ride in the Semi Final in Krakow Poland on the same day.
Young Lions boss Neil Vatcher said, of course at this stage of the competition none of these Semi Finals are easy, and in fact they are extremely hard, and with only the top four progressing to the Finals there is no room for error.
It would be foolish of me to make any predictions because at this level, you never know with these guys, all five British boys on their day are capable of qualifying and I hope by Saturday evening we have a number of representatives in this year’s finals.
Both Robert and Dan qualified for the finals last year with Robert ending up coming third overall and Zach just missed out by losing a run off in his Semi Final last May, and the FIM eventually naming him as the first reserve.
This is Drew and Jack’s first venture into Europe, so this will be a great occasion for them, both, but don’t get me wrong, Drew and Jack are not travelling thousands of miles just to make the numbers up!
As I said i am confident that come Saturday evening Great Britain will have representatives in this year’s World Finals, it is just a question of how many?🇬🇧
