Youth Championship – Rds 3 & 4 Women’s Championship Rd 1 & 2
The third and fourth rounds of the 2023 British Youth Championship take place today (Sat 3rd) at Edinburgh ( tapes up 1.30pm) and tomorrow (Sunday 4th) at Workington ( tapes 12.00pm) with a fantastic turn out of riders competing across both rounds, with 32 riders competing at Edinburgh and 35 riders at Workington
If Rounds one and two at Glasgow and Birmingham are anything to go by, these two events will again be very competitive in all classes
British Youth boss Neil Vatcher commented: “It’s going to be a fantastic weekend with so many riders competing and this is all credit to the dedication of the riders and their families.
I am certainly looking forward to returning back to Armadale, which as we all know is such a specialist track that always produces good racing which ever level, and also returning back to the fantastic Workington track just seven days after they hosted the British Under 21 Qualifier, and anyone who is yet to visit the Northside venue it is highly recommended.
There will be quite a few local riders taking part this year and that is all credit to the people at the Edinburgh Academy who have produced so much talent in a real short space of time. At the Belle Vue youth round last month I am sure the Edinburgh academy staff would have been proud to have seen a one two and three in the support class, with Rocco Webb winning the round and Lewis Hague and Liam Morris taking up the rostrum places.”
In the 125cc Championship class round one winner Seth Norman will be hoping for better luck this weekend after missing out on the final at Birmingham on Wednesday with mechanical gremlins, but both Oli Bovingdon and Archie Rolph will also be trying to win their second round of the 2023 series after all three boys have won a round each so far this season.
William Cairns who is leading the 250cc Championship with two wins out of two, will be going for his third and fourth wins, with the rest of the 250cc riders trying to spoil his weekend and keep their own Championship dreams intact.
In the 500cc class, Ashton Boughen, who currently leads the series with two wins, unfortunately misses the Edinburgh round due to riding for Leicester in the evening, providing an opportunity to the rest of the field to claim some points back, including Jody Scott, who is in for a busy weekend with three meetings in two days.
On top of the Youth Round there is an added bonus this weekend, as it will also see Rounds one and two of the inaugural Womans Open Championship with four riders competing including 2022 SGP2 German International Celina Liebmann, who will hoping to impress the British Promoters as she is keen on a team place in the UK, as well as British riders Katie Gordon, Morgan Leonard and Wendy McAllen.
The Young Lions would like to thank the Promotions at both Edinburgh and Workington for their continued support of British Youth Speedway as well as their series sponsors Nuneaton Speedway Supporters Club, Wessex Marine, Brian Royle, AGF Plant Ltd, Friends of Speedway, Foxbury Motors, Ignite Insurance Brokers, Northern Scaffolding Solutions, Rentruck of Rochadale, Gordon Pairman and the members of the BSP Ltd.
Please note – similar to many organisations, we have seen an increase in the number of fake streaming channels, especially on Facebook. Please note, that unless the Young Lions clearly identify a club is officially streaming a meeting, such as Edinburgh today, please do not click on any links as they are spam.
