British Youth Championship Round 5
The British Youth Championship series moves onto Leicester this afternoon with a 4pm start time and with a fantastic attendance of 27 riders across the 3 classes of 500cc, 250cc and 125s.
This is Round 5 of a 6 round series and with each rider being able to drop their score from one round there has been dominance from one rider in each class of the 500cc and 250cc classes with Ben Trigger and Luke Harrison so far having won all their rounds in their respective classes so therefore the likelihood of a British Champion being crowned this afternoon.
British Youth boss Neil Vatcher explained the scenario of the possible outcomes this afternoon,
“I am sure we will see the crowning of at least 2 British Champions this afternoon and possibly with the right outcome a 3rd in the 125cc class.
Personally, it would be fantastic for Leicester asset Ben Trigger to win his first British Championship in front of his home supporters, and I hope the Leicester public come out in numbers to support him.
For Ben to be crowned British Champion he will need to qualify for the final this afternoon and a 4th place finish in the final will be enough for him to win this year’s British Championship although I know Ben will not settle for a 4th place finish and will be determined to continue his rich vein of form in this year’s Championship and win in front of his home fans.”
Like Trigger, in the 250cc class Luke Harrison has yet to drop a point in this year’s series and due to the results of the other competitors all Harrison needs to do this afternoon to claim his 2nd British 250cc Championship is a 6th place finish, but like Trigger will be determined to continue winning each of this year’s rounds.
In the 125cc class Stene Pijper who is yet to finish outside of a top 2 finish in the previous 4 rounds will need to again finish in at least 2nd place today and depending on other results would know if that would be enough to claim this year’s British Championship.
Seth Norman who won the last support class at Belle Vue 2 weeks ago will be competing at his local track for the first time and will be hoping to continue his good form in his first year in the series.
The 6th and final round will take place at Plymouth on Saturday 18th September.
