Belle Vue host the 5th and Final Round of the 2020 British Youth Championship on Saturday as an incredible 39 riders take part across the 3 classes of 500cc, 250cc and 125cc.
Youth Boss Neil Vatcher said Saturday Final round is going to be an absolute cracker and in my 11 years of running this series I cannot recall the chase for the Championship to be as exciting as it is this year, and for the first time ever I can see that we are going to end up having to have a run off for at least 1 of the British Titles with only 2 points separating 2 riders in all 3 classes.
Joe Thompson in the 500cc class is 2 points ahead of his brother Dan, Max James leads the 250cc class by 2 points ahead of Luke Harrison and there is a 2 point difference between Max Perry and Sonny Springer in the 125cc class.
The 500cc class looks particularly strong line up with 6 riders who would have been competing in the National League in 2020 taking part, as well the Thompson Twins, Harry McGurk, Elliot Kelly, Archie Freeman and Jake Mulford.
After having low numbers in the 250cc class in 2020, there are 6 riders taking part in this round with Charlie Wood making his debut after moving up from 125s, joining James, Harrison, Ashton Vale, Cameron Taylor and Jody Scott.
The 125cc class is split into 2 groups with the 125A group chasing the British Title has 9 riders competing and the support class of the 125B having 10 riders in their group.
Vatcher concluded by saying in what has been the most difficult year for everyone involved in British Speedway due to the pandemic, it is amazing that we have been able to have 5 rounds of the Championship at 5 different venues, considering that the season did not start until August.
Everyone involved with the British Youth Championship would like to thank the Promotions at Scunthorpe, Leicester, King’s Lynn, Edinburgh and Belle Vue for hosting a round this season, and I personally would like to thank all the riders and their families for all their hard work and commitment during 2020, and to all our loyal series sponsors.
