Challenging night in SGP2
British riders Dan Thompson and Jake Mulford had a tough night in the opening round of the SGP2 (World Under-21) series in Malilla.
They finished in 11th and 16th place respectively with Thompson missing out on a place in the Last Chance Qualifiers on countback after scoring six points.
Current SGP2 Champion Wiktor Przyjemski continued where he left off in 2024 by winning Round 1, whilst Denmark’s William Drejer claimed second ahead of Poland’s Kevin Malkiewicz and Nazar Parnitskyi of Ukraine.
GB Under-21 boss Neil Vatcher said: “Dan had an eventful meeting and found it hard to find the right set-up with new equipment on a track he was riding for the first time.
“Jake, again on his first visit to the Malilla circuit, struggled for speed all night and up against the world best Under 21 riders it was always going to be a difficult evening, and like Dan he was chasing the right set-up.”
Round 2 of the series takes place at Riga in Latvia early next month.
Result:
Dan Thompson – 6 points (11th place)
Jake Mulford – 2 points (16th place)
