British Youth Championship – Glasgow Report
Glasgow hosted the latest round of the 2025 British Youth Championship on Sunday and at such a great venue, as in previous years this was another fantastic event showcasing the young British talent.
The 500cc class was dominated by riders competing at NDL and NDT level with eight riders competing and only Liam Greens, making his British Youth Championship debut, and 14-year-old Rocco Webb currently without an NDL/NDT team spot.
Pre-meeting favourite Cooper Rushen did not disappoint and won all his qualifying heats, and then eventually the all-important Final which included some very fast race times, which would give him the maximum 18 Championship points.
Fighting for the minor places was a real battle with a whole host of NDL and NDT riders battling it out to make the Final, including current series leader Ryan Ingram, Charlie Southwick, Harry Fletcher, Stene Pijper and Lee Harrison.
Between the five League riders there were only three points separating them to see who qualified for the Final with Ingram and Fletcher tying on 8 points. Southwick got the better of Pijper on countback as both riders ended on 6 points, but Southwick had two race wins compared to Pijper none, and Harrison had a 5 point score
Although Rushen was clear in the Final with Ingram keeping him honest, the real battle was for third place with Southwick and Fletcher passing and re-passing several times, before Fletcher unfortunately fell going into the last bend which allowed Southwick to claim the third spot on the day.
If the 500cc class was exciting then the 250cc was breath-taking with some incredible riding by the pocket rocket Archie Rolph leading the way. After a first race fall, he went through the rest of day undefeated to go on and claim his first win of 2025.
Series leader in this class Casper Kluczniak kept up the pressure to be crowned British Champion with another rostrum finish in second place and Oliver Bovingdon claimed third.
In the 125cc class Lewis Hague made it four wins out four and looks odds on to win his first British Championship, with Charlie Luckman claiming second after both Fraser Buckle and Charlie Fletcher retired in the Final, with Buckle being awarded third place overall having been the highest points scorer on the day.
In the 125cc support class the recently turned 11-year-old Douglas Marshall again showed massive improvement in the sport that he has only just started this season to claim his second win of 2025, which included a race win when handicapped 15 metres due to a starting offence.
Callum Hague kept up the pressure at the top of the support class with another second place finish and Ella Marshall claimed her second rostrum place finish in third.
