On the first day of Spring at Chris Harris’ Testimonial in Coventry, the Young Lions were able to put a strong team together to ride against Team Bomber in what was an exciting looking line up for both teams.
Two riders from three different classes, 500cc, 250cc and 125cc made up the two line ups and it looked as if the two teams were of equal quality.
Team British Youth made the perfect start with the one and two from last years championship, Jack Parkinson and Jamie Halder got a maximum score over Kyle Roberts and Coventry Storm Rider Callum Walker.
Roberts flew from the start in Heat 1 to take the lead, and looked as he would be be the first winner of the day, until the British Youth Pair of Parkinson and Halder, worked their way past the Team Bomber number 1, with Walker battling at the back for the minor places.
From there on in in the 500cc class Parkinson was untroubled in the remaining two heats, and set him self up nicely ahead of the 2016 National League season.
Halder, Walker and Roberts all battled for points for their teams, and all three riders look as if they have a big 2016 season ahead of them.
The 250cc class was dominated by Team Youth rider Leon Flint who made the long trip down from his home in Berwick, and certainly made it worthwhile with three impressive heats wins which included some very fast times.
Anders Rowe, Jason Edwards for Team Harris, and Team Youths Kean Dicken all took points off each other, which kept the scores close right up until the final heat.
With Team British Youth four points up going in to the last heat, it looked as if it would end up all square with the previous unbeaten Thompson Twins Dan and Joe up against Harry McGurk and Nathan Ablitt.
Against all the odds 12 year old Ablitt launched out of the outside gate and led for three and a half Laps, until making a small mistake exiting bend two for the last time which let Joe Thompson and also McGurk through, but with Dan Thompson unable to catch either Ablitt or McGurk it left four points between the two sides.
So some tremendous races and all credit to all twelve riders, and our thanks to Chris Harris and Team Bomber for allowing to showcase the British Youth at such a prestige event in front of a large crowd.
Our next event is the training day at Buxton on Tuesday 29th March.
